Car verification in Faisalabad: check the class, not just the owner
Punjab’s industrial capital sells a different mix of used vehicles from Lahore — more goods carriers, more factory-run vans, more cars registered to a firm rather than a person. The free MTMIS check works the same way here; what you need to read on the record does not.

Check an FD plate on MTMIS Punjab
Faisalabad has no portal of its own. One provincial system holds every Punjab record, so the process below is identical to the one used for a Lahore or Multan car.
Read the FD plate
Faisalabad registrations run the FD series and belong to Punjab Excise — the same authority as Lahore, not a separate Faisalabad department.
Search MTMIS Punjab
One provincial portal covers every district. Searches for a standalone “MTMIS Faisalabad” site lead to third-party mirrors, not the Excise record.
Or SMS 8785
Text the registration number to 8785 from any network. Useful around the older bazaars where data is unreliable and you need an answer while standing with the seller.
Registration class matters more in an industrial city
In a textile and manufacturing economy, a large share of second-hand vehicles have earned their living. The Excise record shows the registration class — and it is the field most buyers skip straight past.
| What you’re looking at | On the record | What to do about it |
|---|---|---|
| Private car, family use | Standard private registration | The usual case — verify owner, tax, engine and chassis |
| Car registered to a business | Company or firm name on the record | The seller must be authorised to sign for the company, not merely an employee |
| Goods carrier / loader | Commercial registration class | Carries fitness and route obligations a private car never has |
| Textile-run van or pickup | Often commercial, high mileage | Odometer and structural wear matter more than paperwork alone |
| Car converted private ↔ commercial | Registration class changed | Class changes must appear on the record; an undocumented one is a real problem |
A commercial past is not a reason to walk away — plenty of well-kept vans and pickups come out of Faisalabad. It is a reason to price the vehicle for what it has actually done.
What to check on a Faisalabad vehicle
The standard Punjab checks apply, plus the ones that only matter when a vehicle may have been owned by a business or worked for a living.

How do I verify a Faisalabad-registered car? +
Faisalabad vehicles sit on the MTMIS Punjab database, administered by Punjab Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control. Enter the registration number on the MTMIS portal, or SMS it to 8785. You get make, model, model year, engine and chassis numbers, the registered owner and token-tax status, free, in about a minute. There is no separate Faisalabad Excise portal — the province runs a single system.
Is there an MTMIS Faisalabad website? +
No, and searching for one is how people end up on third-party sites that mirror or resell the official data. Punjab operates one portal for all districts. Whether the plate reads FD, LE, MN or RI, the lookup is the same site and the same SMS shortcode. If a site asks you to pay to check a Faisalabad number plate, it is charging you for something the government provides free.
What does an FD number plate mean? +
FD is the Faisalabad registration series issued by Punjab Excise, with newer plates following the FDA–FDZ pattern. The series tells you where the vehicle was first registered — useful context, because a car first registered in an industrial district has a meaningfully higher chance of commercial history than one first registered in a residential area of Lahore.
Why does commercial history matter in Faisalabad? +
Faisalabad is Punjab’s industrial and textile centre, and its second-hand pool reflects that: goods carriers, factory-run vans, pickups and cars registered in a business name are all common. A commercial registration class carries obligations a private car does not — fitness requirements and, for goods vehicles, route permits. It also usually means harder use. None of that makes a vehicle a bad buy, but discovering it after payment is worse than before.
The car is registered to a company. Can I still buy it? +
Yes, but the signature matters more than usual. When the registered owner is a firm rather than a person, the individual handing you the keys must be authorised to transfer on the company’s behalf. Buyers routinely accept a manager’s word here and then cannot complete the transfer. Confirm the authority in writing before money moves — it is the single most common Faisalabad-specific complication we see on paperwork.
Can CarOK verify documents for a Faisalabad car? +
Yes. Faisalabad is Punjab-registered, so it falls inside our document verification coverage at PKR 1,500. We check the Excise record against the physical file, confirm the ownership chain and whether the vehicle is genuinely transferable, and look for the lien and tampering signals the free portal cannot show. The result comes back the same day on WhatsApp. Our doorstep physical inspection is currently Lahore-only.
How do I check whether a Faisalabad car has a loan against it? +
The free portal will not reliably tell you. MTMIS does not consistently display an active bank lease or hypothecation, so a vehicle can show a clean online record while a bank still holds a legal interest. This gap matters more on commercially financed vehicles, which are common in an industrial economy. Establishing lien status means examining the file itself.
Does buying from Faisalabad make transfer harder if I live elsewhere? +
Not inherently — a Punjab-registered car transfers under Punjab rules wherever the buyer lives, and Faisalabad’s market draws buyers from Jhang, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh and beyond. What does complicate things is an incomplete previous transfer, which is more likely on a vehicle that has moved between districts or between business owners. Verify the chain before you commit.
What token tax applies to a Faisalabad vehicle? +
Punjab’s schedule, collected by Punjab Excise, with commercial classes assessed differently from private ones. Check the position on MTMIS before agreeing a price: arrears travel with the vehicle, and on a neglected ex-commercial vehicle they can be several years deep.
Do I still need a physical inspection if the file is clean? +
They answer different questions. Verification tells you the vehicle can be legally and cleanly transferred to you. An inspection tells you what it is actually worth — accident repair, engine condition, structural damage, and on ex-commercial vehicles the wear that heavy use leaves behind. We verify Faisalabad documents today; the doorstep 70+ point check currently runs in Lahore.
A clean file says nothing about a hard life
Ex-commercial vehicles can be excellent value and can also be thoroughly worn out, and the Excise record cannot tell the two apart. We verify documents for any Punjab-registered vehicle at PKR 1,500; the doorstep 70+ point inspection currently runs in Lahore.
