Car verification in Multan: start with which district issued it

Multan is where south Punjab trades. That means the car you are looking at was often registered in Khanewal, Vehari, Lodhran or Muzaffargarh and simply brought here to sell — all Punjab records, but a transfer history worth reading carefully before you pay.

Check an MN plate — or any south Punjab plate

One provincial system covers Multan and every surrounding district, so the same three steps work whichever series is on the car.

01

Check which district issued it

A car sold in Multan is often registered in a neighbouring district. MN is Multan itself, but Khanewal, Vehari, Lodhran and Muzaffargarh plates trade here constantly — all still Punjab.

02

Search MTMIS Punjab

Whichever south Punjab district issued the plate, the record sits on the same provincial portal. One database, one search.

03

Or SMS 8785

Text the registration to 8785. Worth doing before you travel — south Punjab buyers often drive an hour or more to view a car.

What’s different here

The car is in Multan. The record might not be.

Multan draws sellers from across the region, so the plate on the bonnet regularly belongs to a district an hour away. That is completely normal and completely checkable — the mistake is assuming the district on the plate matches the dealer’s address.

DistrictPlateWhy it shows up in Multan
Multan MN series The regional hub — largest dealer concentration in south Punjab
Khanewal, Vehari, Lodhran District series Frequently sold through Multan dealers; still MTMIS Punjab records
Muzaffargarh, Layyah District series Cross-river trade; transfers sometimes lag behind the sale
Dera Ghazi Khan DG series Further out, same provincial registry and same 8785 shortcode
Bahawalpur division BWP series A separate division but the identical verification route

Every one of these is an MTMIS Punjab record checked the same way — and every one of them is inside our PKR 1,500 verification coverage.

What to check on a Multan-area vehicle

The provincial checks apply everywhere. These are the ones that matter most when a car has already crossed a district boundary to reach the sale.

Which district actually issued the plate — not where the car is parked today
Original registration book from the issuing district, not a photocopy pending transfer
Transfer deed signed by the person whose CNIC matches the Excise record
Token tax cleared with Punjab Excise — arrears follow the vehicle, not the seller
Engine and chassis stamps physically compared against the book
Agricultural or rural-use history: sustained rough-road wear is common in the region

Multan verification questions

Send us the registration number before you travel to see the car — message on WhatsApp.

How do I verify a Multan-registered car? +

Multan vehicles are Punjab records, held by Punjab Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control. Enter the registration number on the MTMIS Punjab portal or send it by SMS to 8785, and you will see the make, model, model year, engine and chassis numbers, the registered owner and the token-tax position. It is free and takes about a minute. There is no separate Multan Excise portal.

The car is in Multan but the plate is from Khanewal. Is that a problem? +

Not in itself, and it is very common. Multan is the trading hub for south Punjab, so cars registered in Khanewal, Vehari, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh and beyond are routinely sold through Multan dealers. All of those districts sit on the same MTMIS Punjab database, so verification works identically. What does need checking is whether the transfer chain kept pace with the car’s movement between districts — that is where south Punjab purchases most often go wrong.

Is there an MTMIS Multan site? +

No. Punjab runs one portal for the whole province, covering Multan and every surrounding district on the same system. Searching for a Multan-specific portal generally surfaces third-party sites that mirror the official data, sometimes behind a fee. The Excise site and the 8785 SMS service are both free and are the actual source.

What does an MN number plate mean? +

MN is the Multan registration series issued by Punjab Excise, with newer plates following the MNA–MNZ pattern. It tells you the vehicle was first registered in Multan district specifically — as opposed to one of the neighbouring districts whose cars also trade heavily in the city.

Can CarOK verify documents for a Multan car? +

Yes. Multan is Punjab-registered, so it is inside our document verification coverage at PKR 1,500 — and so are the surrounding south Punjab districts, because coverage follows the registering authority rather than the city you happen to be standing in. We check the record against the file, confirm the ownership chain and transferability, and look for lien and tampering signals the free portal does not show. Result the same day on WhatsApp.

I am buying in Multan but live in Lahore. Does that complicate the transfer? +

No — both are Punjab, so it is an intra-provincial transfer under one authority, and buyers move cars up and down the province constantly. The genuine complication is an incomplete earlier transfer, which is more likely on a vehicle that has already changed districts once or twice. Establish that the current seller can legally sign before any money moves.

How do I check for a loan or lease on a Multan vehicle? +

The free MTMIS record will not reliably tell you. It does not consistently show an active bank lease or hypothecation, which means a car can look entirely clean online while a lender still holds a legal interest in it. Confirming that requires examining the file itself — which is what the paid document verification is for.

What should I expect on an agricultural-area vehicle? +

South Punjab is an agricultural economy, and vehicles from the surrounding districts often carry sustained rough-road and dust exposure rather than the stop-start city wear a Lahore car shows. That is a condition question rather than a paperwork one — the Excise record has no opinion on it. It is the main reason we recommend pairing verification with a physical inspection on regional purchases.

What token tax applies to a Multan vehicle? +

Punjab’s schedule, collected by Punjab Excise. Check the status on MTMIS before agreeing a price, because outstanding tax transfers with the vehicle. On cars that have moved between rural districts, arrears going back several years are not unusual.

Do I need an inspection if the documents verify? +

They answer different questions. Verification establishes that the vehicle can be legally and cleanly transferred to you. An inspection establishes what it is worth — accident repair, engine condition, structural integrity, odometer plausibility. We verify Multan documents today; our doorstep 70+ point inspection currently runs in Lahore, which some buyers arrange when a car is being brought north anyway.

Papers, then the metal
